THE HISTORY OF "MEADOW COTTAGE"

The freehold of this unlisted property is for sale as the owners of twenty years standing wish to realise their plans to retire to Pembrokeshire.

Meadow Cottage is first and foremost a “home of true warmth and character”.

According to local historian Jack Tutchener, the premises date back to the early 1740’s making it one of the oldest remaining cottages in Kislingbury.

Over the years it has played its part in local history hosting the Village Post Office for many years. In more recent times cream teas were served in the garden in summer and a costumer’s hire
service was offered during the 1980’s. Over the past twenty years it has been the venue for many a family and local celebration, including The 2000 Millennium and The Queen’s Jubilee . The garden being large enough to take a marquee is really handy.

Originally three dwellings, the premises have been progressively developed and restored over fifty odd years. A plethora of original features are retained including many of the beamed ceilings
and a superb inglenook fireplace, from where we are told, the Post Mistress plied her trade. There is still a natural well in the back garden that provided water for neighbouring houses until
the mains water supply was established.

The mature walled garden and unspoilt views to open countryside combine to give one of the finest aspects in the area.

The premises benefit from gas fired central heating and ground floor damp proofing (20 year guarantee remaining).
